HAVING A NICE TIME BESIDE THE STREAM IN THE PARK

The Genneper Parken:

It is a nature, sports and recreation area in the south of Eindhoven. It is named after the hamlet of Gennep and is one of the largest parks in the Netherlands. The Genneper Parken area is located in and along the Dommel and Tongelreep rivers , the latter of which in particular has managed to retain its natural character and meanders strongly . This stream valley area is part of the ecological main structure of the Netherlands . Several shorter walking routes have been set out here and you can also walk along the Tongelreep to Aalst and beyond. In the opposite direction runs the Airbornepad Market Garden , which leads from Lommel to Arnhem . In the Genneper parken are housed some of the most amazing landmarks which relate to the area’s flora & fauna.

The Genneper watermill (also called Gennepermolen )

It is a watermill in Eindhoven, Netherlands . The mill is located on the Genneperweg, along the Dommel in the Gestel district of the municipality of Eindhoven . It is located in the Genneper Parks . The current mill is an undershot mill with one water wheel. The function was flour mill , previously there was also a second wheel for an oil mill . It is a national monument that is owned by the municipality of Eindhoven. Volunteer millers grind the mill and assist visitors, and organic products and flour are also sold.
The mill was recorded several times in November 1884 by Vincent van Gogh. A windmill with two wheels can be seen on it. The Genneper Watermill along the Dommel is an undershot mill that was used as a flour mill. The mill was restored in 1963 with government grant; it was actually rebuilt for the most part. After a fire on February 11, 1998, the roof was replaced; the cover of the wheel is thereby undone. The mill was painted and drawn in the nineteenth century by the artist Vincent van Gogh . It is a national monument .

The Eindhoven Museum and Prehistoric Village:

Located in Genneper Park,’Prehistoric Village’ originated from experimental archeology . An attempt was made to reconstruct the construction of a house from the Iron Age,& subsequently a complete village from that time was set up. Later a medieval village was also recreated.(Visit to Museum & the Prehistoric Village I have already covered in my recent blog dtd 14th May,2024 on my site for my dear readers to explore virtually)

Its a botanical garden that houses hundreds of native plant species on a site of three hectares which are grouped into twenty Brabant landscape types. This park has been managed by volunteers since 1983. The park is named after Brother Simon Deltour, a brother who was active on Eikenburg .The park consists of landscape types & elements from the Kempen and the Meierij with the plants that naturally belong there. The Heempark was created in 1983 by a volunteer working group in collaboration with the municipality of Eindhoven. It is named after a champion of nature and the environment .

Environmental Education Center (MEC) was located next to the Genneper Watermill in Gestel. Until December 2008, permanent and changing exhibitions in the field of nature and the environment could be visited here. Projects in the field of environmental education were also organized here, for example for children. After years of vacancy, the building has been in use since January 2019 – by way of vacancy management – by Facet, a consultancy for sustainable development and the Gilde Sint Joris

I am a travel enthusiast from Jaipur, India always full of curiosity to explore new places marked by some cultural, geographical & historical significance around the globe. Also I love visiting places full of adventure/mystery & have undertaken many amazing trekking expeditions to difficult locations needing toughness of body, soul &the spirit. I have explored most of Indian states/UTs to learn about their culture, had cultural exchange with people & learnt to respect their religious beliefs/customs.In September 2019, we went on our first foreign trip(50 days)to Netherlands, France, Belgium& Switzerland.Again in July 2022 ,we got a chance to visit Europe & have visited(75-day trip)Italy ,Portugal, Germany,Spain & Vatican city. The trips were full of amazing monuments, natural landscapes & places of great scenic beauty.Enjoyed the visit enormously.Having traveled so much I felt like travel blogging & here I am doing just that !Apart from travel-blogging I also like poetry. Basically I am an Electrical Engineer retired recently from Central Govt. Service after serving for 38 yrs. Meanwhile I have completed my Master of Social Work degree to pursue my Social obligations towards my fellow beings & am engaged in rendering Social Services to the needy &the disadvantaged ! Also I will like to pursue my new-found interest/hobby of writing Travelogues to benefit my readers by providing max. details like statistics, demography, historical origin, way of life , professions , languages spoken & the culture/customs associated with any place. While enjoying any tourist place, I simply advocate that one must also try to learn about the place. I travel and then share the collected information with the potential traveler .Hence the name of my site - Travel and share.😊

  1. The admix of description about rural and urban areas is really very impressive and adding to the knowledge about the places he/she has not and may not be able to visit due to one reason or other.

Additionally, the photographic panorama given is above par. We are proud to have you as a finetuned narrator. God bless you for this.

    With regards
